Two spill gates at the Polgolla Dam have been opened by two feet each amid the risk of flooding due to heavy rainfall.

Authorities stated that 3,940 cubic feet of water per second is being released into the Victoria Reservoir.

Residents in downstream areas of the Mahaweli River and low-lying areas around the Victoria Reservoir have been advised to remain vigilant.
