Social activist and controversial figure Dan Priyasad has succumbed to injuries after being shot multiple times at the ‘Laksanda Sevana’ apartment complex in Meethotamulla, last night (22) according to reports.

Speaking to The Morning, Hospital sources confirmed that the 38-year-old succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka (NHSL). It is learnt that victim received fatal wounds by low-calibre bullets into the chest and shoulder areas.

Also, speaking to The Morning, a law enforcement official who choose to remain anonymous stated that Priyasad was shot at by two individuals with pistol caliber weapons. The assailants escaped by motorcycle and remain at large.

The official further revealed that investigators are following a lead suggesting that a notorious organised crime leader, who had escaped during bail, may be linked to the shooting.

Police have yet to make an official statement regarding suspects or arrests at the time of reporting.
