The National People’s Power (NPP) has successfully taken control of both the Panduwasnuwara and Minipe Pradeshiya Sabhas during post-election council votes, despite not securing outright majorities in the 2025 Local Government (LG) Elections.
In Panduwasnuwara, the NPP and opposition parties had each won 19 seats. However, the Sarvajana Balaya member was disqualified from voting due to his name not being gazetted, tipping the balance in favour of the NPP during the secret ballot.
The NPP also gained control in Minipe, where it initially held 11 out of 23 seats. With support from a United National Front member and the Sarvajana Balaya abstaining, the NPP's candidate won the chairmanship by a narrow 12-10 margin over the SJB.
