Anime-inspired food recipes to try

The world of anime is filled with a range of delectable foods that are associated with Japan. They are portrayed in spectacular and tempting ways. All animated works, primarily those with a Japanese connection, are referred to as anime. If you are a great anime fan, the following list of delicious foods is a must-try. 

Ebi fry 

The simple dish of fried shrimp, which is frequently offered in Asian nations, would fit better in bento boxes and pair nicely with steamed rice. With tonkatsu sauce or tartar sauce, the snack’s crunchiness from the fried bread crumbs is excellent. With only five ingredients, including eggs, flour, and breadcrumbs, this is one of the simplest dishes to prepare.

How to make 

Prawns should be dredged in flour, then the beaten egg. They go once more in the flour, egg, and then panko. Remember to shake off any extra bits.

Oil should be heated to 180 C/350 F.

Deep fry two to three prawns for around 3 minutes, or until they turn golden brown. To drain any extra oil, transfer the ebi fry onto a wire rack or a tray lined with paper towels.

Be cautious to remove the breadcrumbs between batches to maintain clear oil that doesn’t turn black. 


Omurice 

Omurice, a Japanese meal made of rice with scrambled eggs on top and typically topped with ketchup, is great any time of day. Every anime provides its own unique recipe for omurice. Every spoonful of this dish is filled with warming flavours. 

How to make 

Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add 1 tablespoon butter, and then an onion and carrot. Cook, stirring, until the onion is translucent and a little browned at the edges (about 3 minutes). Add ham and cook, stirring, until it begins to brown (about 30 seconds).

Add remaining 1 tablespoon of butter, and then rice, breaking it up with a wooden spoon or long chopsticks. Adjust heat to medium and cook until the grains are glossy (1 to 2 minutes). Stir in ketchup and soy sauce, and cook, stirring (another 30 seconds or until caramelised). Stir in peas and deglaze the pan with dashi or chicken stock. Remove from heat and season to taste with salt and pepper.

Grease a small bowl with safflower oil and pack 1 cup of the rice. Invert this over a plate and remove the bowl. Repeat with the other half of the rice on a second plate.

In a small well-seasoned carbon steel omelette pan, heat ½ teaspoon oil, or just enough to coat the pan, over medium-high heat. Beat 2 eggs with ½ teaspoon dashi or water, until yolks and whites are completely blended. Season with salt and pepper.


Onigiri 

A triangle-shaped white rice ball that is typically filled with meat and veggies and coated in seaweed. This is a delicious snack that is perfect for bento boxes and is also regarded as a traditional comfort dish due to its simplicity. All you need are eggs, seaweed, and rice to prepare this.

How to make 

Put approximately a half cup of steaming rice in a rice bowl and cut each nori sheet (if using) into 8 or 9 strips.

The rice won’t stick if you wet your hands with water first.

Steamed rice should be placed in your hand and shaped into a thick, solid triangle.

Rice should be covered with your preferred filling, such as umeboshi or grilled salmon, then lightly pressed into the rice.

By lightly pressing the rice with both palms, shape it into a round, triangle, or cylinder and secure the filling in the centre. Roll the rice ball in your palms several times while lightly pressing.

Wrap each rice ball with a strip or two of nori, or top each one with sesame seeds.
