The Department of Meteorology has issued an Amber advisory for severe lightning in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as in the Galle and Matara districts.

The advisory, issued at noon today (07), will remain in effect until 11.00 p.m.

Thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning are expected at some places in the affected areas, with temporary localized strong winds also likely.

The public has been urged to take adequate precautions to minimise damage and ensure safety during lightning activity.
