Deputy Minister of Transport Prasanna Gunasena stated that efforts are underway to restore train operations to Kandy within one year.

Floods and landslides caused by Cyclone Ditwah last year severely damaged the upcountry railway line, with repairs between Rambukkana and Peradeniya estimated at US$ 74 million, and reconstruction of the Peradeniya “Kalu Paalama” bridge at US$ 18 million.

Authorities aim to restore services promptly for commuters travelling to Colombo.
