The Cabinet has approved a proposal to amend the Samurdhi Act No. 1 of 2013 (as amended by the Livelihood Development Act No. 2 of 2017) to bring Samurdhi Community-Based Banks and Samurdhi Bank Societies under government audit.

This approval was granted during the Cabinet meeting held on 30th December 2024.

The draft bill, prepared by the Legal Draftsman, has received clearance from the Attorney General.

The Cabinet also approved the proposal by the Minister of Rural Development, Social Security, and Empowerment of Persons and Communities to publish the bill in the Government Gazette and subsequently present it to Parliament for approval.
