President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has directed officials to discontinue state institutions that are no longer productive or effective.

The directive was issued during a meeting to review the Ministry of Housing, Construction and Water Supply's 2026 budget progress and 2027 budget plans.

The President also stated that the 2027 Budget will place special emphasis on addressing the country's drinking water issues.

Discussions also focused on major water supply projects, resettlement programmes and housing development initiatives.
