The construction of the Pothuhera to Rambukkana section of the Central Expressway is scheduled to be completed before the Sinhala and Tamil New Year in April 2028, according to Minister of Transport, Highways, Ports, and Civil Aviation, Bimal Rathnayake.

The minister made the announcement at a ceremony marking the recommencement of construction on the Kadawatha to Mirigama section. 

He noted that the Kadawatha-Mirigama stretch is expected to be completed within 32 months, by the year 2028.

The completion of the Pothuhera to Rambukkana section is planned to precede this and will include the development of connecting roads around Rambukkana.
