The Government cannot act contrary to the Supreme Court’s ruling against Venerable Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thero, Cabinet Spokesman Dr Nalinda Jayatissa stated today (20).

Speaking at the weekly Cabinet media briefing, Jayatissa responded to a question about granting a presidential pardon to the imprisoned monk, stating that the Government must uphold the law and respect court orders.

He added that the law must be applied equally to everyone, regardless of their status, position or influence.
