The Department of Railways announced that train services will be limited to short-distance routes such as Galle, Negombo, and Veyangoda today (17), suspending all long-distance train services. 

This decision follows a one-day token strike launched by railway station masters at midnight yesterday (16) in response to several unresolved demands.

According to the Railway Station Masters’ Union, the strike action will continue indefinitely, unless their concerns are addressed within the next week.
