Vote on Account passed with amendments

The Vote on Account for state expenditure for the first four months of 2020 was passed with amendments in Parliament today. Minister of Finance Mangala Samaraweera sought the Parliament’s approval to spend a total of Rs. 1,469 billion and an approval to limit obtaining of loans to Rs. 721 billion. On 1 Oct the Cabinet of Ministers approved a proposal made by Samaraweera to present a Vote of Account for the first four months of the year 2020 in Parliament. Since the Presidential polls is scheduled on 16 November 2019, the Budget for the year 2020 will be postponed to early 2020.
