Sri Lanka Badminton (SLB) has made all arrangements in place to host the Sri Lanka Junior International Series 2025, which will be held between 5-8 August at the New Saniro Sports Complex in Naiwala, Gampaha.
The four-day grand international competition is expected to draw a large number of young and aspiring shuttlers from all parts of the world to Sri Lanka, as the island nation will host international stars from across the world under one roof.
The organisers, Sri Lanka Badminton (SLB), have already received an overwhelming number of entries from leading badminton-playing countries, including Sri Lanka, as the six-day competition is expected to showpiece the country’s capability in hosting an event of high interest and magnitude.
“Hosting our first-ever Junior International Series is a proud moment for Sri Lanka Badminton, as it marks a significant milestone for the sport in the country. This high-scale international event will surely provide an excellent opportunity for our very own young players to gain valuable international exposure. We also would like to extend our sincere appreciation to all sponsors, partners and supporters who have joined SLB in making this historic event a possibility,” said SLB President Roshan Gunawardena.
The event, sanctioned by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) and Badminton Asia (BA) includes competitions for shuttlers of the age categories of Under-19, Under-17, Under-15 and Under-13.
The vast number of shuttlers will compete under Boys and Girls categories in Singles as well as Doubles in and Mixed categories.
The entire tournament will be conducted in accordance with the BWF Laws of Badminton.
The competition will officially take off at the eight-court New Saniro Sports Complex with the preliminary round matches on 5 August.
The competition will proceed with the quarterfinals, followed by the semifinals. The finals of all age categories are slated for 8 August followed by the awards ceremony.
In addition to being a high-profile international competition, the event will be of high importance for young and aspiring local shuttlers, who will get to compete against top international talent and experience elite-level match-play.
The event will also serve as a competition that evaluates BWF ranking points, which in return would give the local talents gain international exposure and recognition.
