Gas companies have assured an uninterrupted supply to the market, Agriculture Minister, P. Harrison said today. He expressed these views to media following the cost of living committee meeting held today. Harrison cited the decrease in prices of gas and the resultant increase in demand as one of reasons for the shortage of gas in the country. The tension in the middle east and inclement weather conditions were other reasons for the shortage, Harrison said. However he said, gas shipments for the Christmas season and the new year are on the way. Meanwhile, Litro Gas said it wishes to increase the daily supply of Gas cylinders from 75,000 to 100,000. Litro Gas, Sales Director Janaka Pathirathna said ships carrying 15,000 MT of gas will arrive in the next few days. Laugfs Gas said it plans to increase its daily supply of gas cylinders by 35% as a measure to resolve the Gas shortage. Laugfs Gas CEO Chaminda Ediriwickrama said as a measure to prevent future shortages, the company will maintain a buffer of 27000 MT of Gas.
