A U.S. Navy Littoral Combat Ship, the USS Canberra (LCS 30), arrived at the Port of Colombo on June 12 for a brief stop to take on fuel and supplies.

The ship, part of the Independence-class, is designed for near-shore operations and supports missions such as maritime security, sea control, deterrence, and forward presence. It was commissioned in July 2023.

This visit, under the command of Commander James McLaughlin, marks the fourth U.S. Navy littoral combat ship to call at Colombo, following previous visits by USS Tulsa, USS Charleston, and USS Santa Barbara.

The U.S. Embassy in Sri Lanka stated that the port call reflects ongoing cooperation between the U.S. and Sri Lankan navies. It also highlights both countries’ commitment to strengthening maritime security and maintaining peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
