The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has announced the full implementation of a regulatory framework for drones in Sri Lanka, focusing on commercial usage.
Director of CAA General Captain Daminda Rambukwella stated that all commercial drones weighing between 250 grams and 25 kilograms must be registered.
The move follows a rise in violations, including unauthorized operations that disrupted Cyclone Ditwah relief efforts and flights over sensitive sites.
Offenders face fines or imprisonment under the Civil Aviation Act.
