The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC) has welcomed the recent reduction in the U.S. reciprocal tariff rate on Sri Lankan exports from 44% to 30%, calling it a constructive first step toward aligning with regional competitors.
In a statement, the CCC urged the Government to continue its dialogue with U.S. authorities to secure a further reduction by 1 August, noting that other countries in the region are likely to benefit from even lower tariffs.
The Chamber emphasised that further progress is vital for maintaining buyer confidence, enhancing Sri Lanka’s market position, and supporting long-term trade growth.
It also reaffirmed its readiness to assist the Government through industry input, coordinated advocacy, and constructive dialogue.
