Former Cabinet Minister Mahinda Wijesekara passes away at 83

Mahinda Wijesekara, a former Cabinet Minister and prominent Southern politician, passed away this morning (02) at the age of 83. 


He had been in poor health for some time following injuries sustained in a bomb attack by LTTE terrorists in Godapitiya, Matara.  


Wijesekara was the father of former Minister Kanchana Wijesekara. Throughout his distinguished political career, he held several key ministerial positions, including Minister of Postal and Telecommunication Services in 2008 and Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources from 2001 to 2004.  


He served as a Member of Parliament for over twenty years, representing multiple political alliances, including the People’s Alliance, the United National Party, and the United People’s Freedom Alliance. 


His contributions to Sri Lankan politics are remembered by many.
