A landslide has occurred in the Gangekumbura area of Rambukkana. The authorities have advised the people in the vicinity of the affected areas to exercise caution.

Meanwhile, the removal of landslide debris along the Hatton–Colombo Main Road has already commenced, according to the Senior Superintendent of Police for the Hatton Division, Pradeep Weerasekara. The landslides were reported in the areas of Hatton, Watawala, Diyagala, and Kalugala. At present, efforts to clear at least one lane for vehicular movement are underway as a matter of urgency, with private contractors deploying a significant number of backhoes for the operation. However, the authorities have advised motorists and residents to remain vigilant due to the possibility of further landslides in the area.

Elsewhere, the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) in Mullaitivu has stated that the Nayaru Main Bridge has completely collapsed due to severe flooding. As a result of the damage, vehicular movement along the Mullaitivu–Welioya/Trincomalee/Kokkilai routes are disrupted. The Vadduvakal Bridge in Mullaitivu has also collapsed in two places due to flooding, the Road Development Authority stated. This Bridge, which runs across the Nandikadal Lagoon, is one of the main access routes to Mullaitivu Town. The District DMC stated that all transportation across the Bridge has been suspended, as two sections of the Bridge on the road from Mullaitivu to Paranthan over the Nandikadal Lagoon have collapsed.

Further, due to the rising water levels in the Kelani River Basin, Hanwella and several surrounding low-lying areas are currently experiencing a major flood situation. The Irrigation Department had announced the water level at the Hanwella gauging station has reached 9.78 metres, approaching the level of a major flood situation. Irrigation Director General L.S. Sooriyabandara has stated that this situation has arisen as a result of the continuous rise in water levels across the Basin. The gauge reading at Nagalagam Street has reached 8.35 feet, marking the highest water level recorded in recent history. He further noted that the water levels are expected to remain stable, with no further increase.

Also, the flood dam located near the Kelaniya Temple has now reached its maximum planned capacity, he said. The Department urged all residents living in the vicinity of the flood dam to remain alert to official warnings and assured that immediate notifications will be issued if any danger arises.
