Three clubs yet to meet licensing criteria

  • Super League Season 2025/26 to kick off in June 


The Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) in a media release states that decisions regarding the participation of Colombo Football Club (FC), Renown Sports Club (SC) and Ratnam Sports Club (SC), respectively at the Super League season 2025/26 is still pending.

The tournament according to the FFSL is due to kick off next month. The sport’s local controlling body has stated that the three aforementioned clubs are still to fulfil their respective club licensing criteria and has noted that if they fail to fulfil their responsibilities the championship will proceed without them.

The originally envisioned 10-team event is scheduled to feature defending champions Blue Star Sports Club (SC), Blue Eagles Sports Club (SC), Defenders Football Club (FC), New Young Football Club (FC), Red Star Football Club (FC), Sea Hawks Football Club (FC) and Up Country Lions Football Club (FC).

The FFSL in its media release has pointed out that out of the 22 club licensing criteria the three clubs in question Colombo FC have fulfilled 13, Renown SC two and Ratnam SC are still to meet any criteria to date.

The Football House has announced that all applicant clubs will undergo the final entry control reviews over this week, while licenses to compete in the forthcoming tournament will be granted only to those clubs that successfully meet and pass the requisite entry control criteria.

The previous edition of the Championship – the country’s premier competition was won by Blue Star SC of Kalutara who were awarded a purse of Rs 5 million, while Navy Sports Club and Colombo FC were adjudged join runners-up with both being awarded a purse of Rs 3.5 million.
