Sri Lanka Police have warned that strict legal action will be taken against anyone who allows dengue mosquito breeding sites to exist on their premises, as the country faces a heightened risk of dengue.
Police said offenders may face prosecution under the Penal Code and the Prevention of Mosquito Breeding Act, with failure to comply with a Red Notice carrying a maximum fine of Rs. 25,000.
Authorities also revealed that 4,672 cases were filed in courts between January and June 2026 against individuals for maintaining environments conducive to mosquito breeding.
