- HRCSL to obtain tech help to retrieve missing CID footage
Former State Intelligence Service (SIS) Director, Major General (Retired) Suresh Sallay, who is currently in the custody of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and is receiving treatment at the Colombo National Hospital, has reiterated that he will not end his ongoing hunger strike. According to reports, Sallay had told his personal lawyer during a hospital visit that he is unwilling to return to the CID detention cell, describing the facility as “hell”. He is also said to have alleged that the CID Director holds a personal animosity toward him.
During the same visit, the lawyer is reported to have informed Sallay of developments related to ongoing investigations, including matters under review by the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL), the Government’s position on the possible repeal of the Prevention of Terrorism (Temporary Provisions) Act, and a request made to the President by the Chief Prelate of the Siam Sect’s Asgiriya Chapter. The lawyer also urged him to end the hunger strike.
However, Sallay reportedly maintained his position, insisting that he will continue the protest.
Meanwhile, the CID has informed HRCSL that video footage of a physical inspection allegedly carried out on 8 March is not available, stating that its storage system retains recordings only for the past month.
In response, HRCSL is reportedly considering obtaining external technical assistance to recover or retrieve the missing footage.
CID has also been requested to submit additional reports related to the ongoing investigations into Sallay, with a deadline set for 26 June.
