The Supreme Court has rejected a request to have petitions challenging the proposed 22nd Constitutional Amendment heard by a full bench of all sitting Supreme Court judges.

Chief Justice Preethi Padman Surasena stated that the request had been rejected and that the petitions will continue to be considered by the existing five-member bench.

The bench issued the order after considering submissions from counsel for the petitioners, the Attorney General and an intervening petitioner.
