Treatment has commenced for tusker ‘Kawanthissa’, which has been roaming in the Galgamuwa area, the Ministry of Environment stated.

Treatment began following an operation conducted yesterday (24) near the Usgala Siyambalangamuwa Wewa by a special Department of Wildlife Conservation team led by a veterinary surgeon from Nikaweratiya.

Veterinary surgeons, wildlife officers and specialist medical teams are involved in the operation and are closely monitoring the tusker’s condition.

The Department of Wildlife Conservation stated that necessary veterinary procedures are being carried out continuously to ensure Kawanthissa’s health and safety.
