Minister of Energy Kumara Jayakody has stated that the government has not implemented any power cuts during the ongoing energy crisis.
He explained that the intermittent disruptions experienced are solely due to electricity breakdowns and not deliberate load shedding.
During today’s parliamentary session, Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Mujibur Rahman questioned why the public has not been properly informed about enforced power cuts, citing reports of outages lasting an hour or more across various parts of the island.
In response, the Minister urged the public and media to avoid spreading misleading information, emphasizing that frequent power breakdowns are a common occurrence and not a new phenomenon.
He further clarified that these short-term disruptions should be referred to as “breakdowns” rather than “power cuts.”
