CIABOC has arrested a former Commissioner (Investigations) of the Department of Land Title Settlement over an alleged corruption offence that caused a financial loss of more than Rs. 1.58 billion to the Government.

According to CIABOC, the suspect allegedly abused his official powers by issuing a report using departmental letterheads under an unauthorised investigation number.

The report allegedly represented a 1.0982-hectare state-owned property in Borella, valued at around Rs. 1.586 billion, as belonging to a private party.

The suspect is accused of causing a loss to the State and providing an undue benefit to another party. He is due to be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court.
