Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Co-operative Development, Wasantha Samarasinghe, stated 50,000 LP gas cylinders will be released to the market today (21).
He noted that 80,000 cylinders were released yesterday, while 100,000 cylinders are scheduled to be released daily from Monday.
The Minister further stated that a ship carrying 3,700 metric tons of gas is due to arrive in the country tomorrow. Another shipment of 3,900 metric tons is expected on 26 February, followed by a further 3,700 metric tons on 28 February.
Samarasinghe emphasized that customers who have paid the required amount and security deposit for yellow gas cylinders are entitled to receive supplies, and that it is the responsibility of the relevant company to ensure distribution.
He warned that the government will take firm action against any attempts to create shortages, exploit consumers, or gain unfair business advantages.
As consumers using yellow cylinders currently face difficulties in exchanging them for blue cylinders, Litro Gas Lanka Ltd plans to release blue cylinders to the market from March 12 to assist affected customers.
