A cross-party delegation of United Kingdom (UK) parliamentarians completed a 5-day official visit to Sri Lanka last week, focusing on enhancing parliamentary collaboration and democratic dialogue.
Organized by the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association UK and Westminster Foundation for Democracy, the delegation held workshops with Sri Lankan MPs to exchange insights on legislative governance and strengthen mutual understanding between the two parliaments.
The visit included meetings with Deputy Foreign Minister Arun Hemachandra, civil society groups, Chevening alumni, and visits to key institutions such as the British Council and Presidential Secretariat.
A reception hosted by British High Commissioner Andrew Patrick highlighted the deep-rooted democratic ties between the UK and Sri Lanka. The High Commission noted the visit reaffirms the UK’s commitment to supporting democratic development across the Commonwealth.
