Vehicle imports hit third-highest level in 2025

26 Apr 2026 | BY Staff Writer

Sri Lanka’s vehicle import expenditure reached USD 2.04 billion in 2025, marking the third-highest level on record, the Central Bank’s Annual Economic Review stated.

The increase follows the lifting of all private vehicle import restrictions by January 2025.

A sharp rise in imports was recorded after April, with both private and commercial vehicles contributing to the total.

The Central Bank noted that the surge reflects increased demand and economic activity following years of restrictions.
