An Extraordinary Gazette has been issued to establish a new prison in Mahamodara.

The gazette, issued by Harshana Nanayakkara, states that the facility will operate as “Mahamodara Prison” with jurisdiction covering the entire country.

The Ministry of Justice said the prison is expected to operate temporarily from part of the former Mahamodara Hospital premises.
