A three-wheeler driver died after being hit by a train near Walpola railway station in Ragama.

Police reported the driver was killed instantly after driving carelessly across the level crossing. 

Two female relatives travelling in the back of the vehicle sustained serious injuries and were admitted to Ragama Hospital. 

Eyewitnesses stated the driver attempted to cross while the train signals and bells were ringing and the barrier gate was closed. 

Police are conducting further investigations into the fatal incident.
