Petitions have been filed in the Supreme Court challenging several clauses of the Parliamentary Pensions (Repeal) Bill.

The petitions were submitted by former Members of Parliament, including M. M. Pemasiri, Nawaratna Banda, B. M. Deepal Gunasekara, Samansiri Herath, Piyasoma Upali and Upali Amarasiri.

The petitioners stated that provisions of the bill violate fundamental rights under the Constitution.

They have requested the Supreme Court to rule that the bill requires a special majority in Parliament and approval at a public referendum.
