20 Oct 2025

Foreign Affairs and Foreign Employment Deputy Minister Arun Hemachandra has met with Ambassador of the European Union (EU) to Sri Lanka Carmen Moreno on Friday (17) to discuss avenues for collaboration with the EU’s Global Gateway Strategy.

In a statement, Hemachandra said: “The Global Gateway is the European Union’s strategy to mobilise up to € 300 billion in public and private investments for high-quality, sustainable infrastructure projects around the world between 2021 and 2027. It focuses on the five key areas of digital, climate and energy, transport, health, and education and research.”

Currently, the EU’s Global Gateway strategy supports Sri Lanka’s economic recovery and green transition through projects focused on circular economy, sustainable industry, and biodiversity.
