The Chairman of the National Transmission Network Service Provider (Pvt) Ltd (NTNSP) Nusith Kumaratunga stated that a 40% salary increase demanded by electricity trade unions could force tariffs to rise by around 100%.
He noted that the unions had submitted 64 demands, of which 62 have already been agreed upon by management of successor companies of the Ceylon Electricity Board.
Kumaratunga stated that the proposed salary increase would add about Rs. 1.8 billion per month to salary costs.
