Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena has tendered his letter of resignation to former President Ranil Wickremesinghe. 

Gunawardena has stated that as the ninth Executive President has been elected in the Presidential Election held on 21 September, he will resign from his position in accordance with Article 47(2) of the Constitution.
