  • Van plunges into precipice near accident site

A Grade 12 schoolboy was killed while another student sustained injuries in an accident that occurred early yesterday morning (2) when their motorcycle collided with a bus on the Kandy–Digana road near the Pallekele Army Camp, the Police stated. The two students were traveling on a motorcycle to the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium to help organise a school big match, when the collision occurred. Both were reportedly run over by the bus following the crash. The injured student is receiving intensive care at the Kandy National Hospital.

Five individuals have sustained serious injuries after a van carrying members of the same family veered off the road and plunged nearly 70 feet down a precipice near the Gerandi Ella area in Kotmale in the early hours of yesterday. The accident occurred at around 1 a.m. along the Nuwara Eliya–Gampola main road, near a known landslide zone and close to the site of a previous bus accident.

A van carrying four members of the same family along with another individual was returning towards Kotmale, after visiting a person who had been injured in a motorcycle accident. The van was being driven by its owner. It is reported that the accident occurred when the driver fell asleep, causing the van to veer off the road.
