US Dollar crosses Rs. 320, first time since Jan. 2024

The US Dollar surged past the Rs. 320 threshold against the Sri Lankan Rupee on Thursday (7), marking the first time it has done so since 23 January 2024. According to market data, the mid-rate of the dollar stood at Rs. 320.45 yesterday (7). The buying rate was recorded at Rs. 317.26, while the selling rate reached Rs. 324.87.

This marks a notable shift in currency movements. The dollar’s buying rate crossed the Rs. 317 level for the first time since 16 January 2024. Meanwhile, the selling rate had already surpassed Rs. 324 Wednesday (6), the first occurrence since 24 January 2024.

The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) reported that, as of 30 April, the Sri Lankan Rupee has depreciated by approximately 2.9% against the US Dollar.
