Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Readiness Team (CERT) has received more than 12,650 complaints related to social media misuse and cyber incidents in 2025.

Sri Lanka CERT stated most complaints involved fake and hacked social media accounts, online financial scams and digital fraud.

Lead Information Security Engineer Charuka Damunupola noted reports also included cyber harassment, abusive content and the spread of false information.

The public has been urged to remain vigilant and report cyber incidents promptly to Sri Lanka CERT.
