The National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) has stated that water supply to several areas in Colombo and Gampaha was temporarily suspended after a private factory released a chemical into the environment.

The supply was suspended as a precaution while authorities assessed whether pollutants had entered the water system.

The Disaster Management Centre and security forces are jointly investigating the incident, while the NWSDB has lodged a complaint with police.
