The Cabinet has approved a proposal to draft a Digital Economy Bill aimed at strengthening Sri Lanka’s digital transformation and expanding the digital economy.

The proposed legislation will establish a legal and institutional framework for policy implementation, technology deployment, regulation and enforcement, while supporting private sector participation.

The bill will also focus on emerging areas of digital innovation, including artificial intelligence. The proposal was submitted by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake in his capacity as Minister of Digital Economy.
