Professor T.M.W.J. Bandara, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority, emphasised the crucial need for systematic energy management amid current challenges.
Highlighting that evening electricity generation mainly depends on costly fossil fuels, he called for increased public cooperation to minimize consumption.
Professor Bandara pointed out that using energy-efficient appliances, guided by new labeling systems, can help reduce national generation costs and lower consumer bills.
He also announced plans for legal measures to restrict the import of inefficient electrical devices and an upcoming short-term energy efficiency program.
With the country facing a crude oil shortage and increased reliance on diesel, he encouraged citizens to shift energy-intensive activities to daytime hours when solar power is available.
Such practices can significantly cut costs and support Sri Lanka’s energy sustainability efforts.
