Construction of the Mahaiyawa tunnel on the Kandy–Jaffna A9 road is being accelerated to reduce heavy traffic congestion along the busy route.

The project, costing nearly Rs. 700 million, was recently launched under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

Once completed, the tunnel is expected to significantly improve traffic flow and strengthen connectivity along the key A9 corridor.
