The Illankai Tamil Arasu Katchi (ITAK) has taken control of the Jaffna Municipal Council following a strong electoral showing.

ITAK General Secretary M.A. Sumanthiran announced that Vivekanandarajah Mathivathani was elected as Mayor, receiving 16 out of 19 votes.

The result cements ITAK’s majority on the council and signals continued voter support for the party in the Northern Province’s political heartland.
