Sri Lanka officially launched its Digital Nomad Visa (DNV) facility yesterday (26) at the “Silk Route” passenger terminal of Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake.
The event was presided over by Deputy Minister of Digital Economy, Eranga Weeraratne, marking a key milestone in the country's digital and economic growth.
The Digital Nomad Visa is designed for foreign nationals over 18 who wish to live in Sri Lanka while working remotely for foreign companies.
Applicants must demonstrate a minimum monthly foreign exchange inflow of $ 2,000 and are permitted to stay for one year, provided they do not engage in local employment or business activities.
They can, however, enroll their children in international or private schools in Sri Lanka.
The visa process involves submitting police clearances and medical reports from the applicant’s home country, with ongoing monitoring of bank accounts and income tax compliance by relevant authorities.
The first recipients of the visa are Ukrainian nationals Daria Gordiienko and her husband, Yaroslav Kovelchuk.
The launch was attended by senior officials, including Dr. Hans Wijayasuriya and Nayana Senaratne. Interested applicants can find more information and application forms on the official Department of Immigration and Emigration website.
