S. Achchudan, officially assumed duties as the new Director General (DG) of the Department of Sports Development on Friday (2), a media release issued by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports said.

He received his letter of appointment from the Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Sunil Kumara Gamage.

Following the appointment, he held his maiden meeting with the officers of the Department of Sports Development at the Duncan White Hall, located within the Ministry premises.

During this meeting, he briefed the officials regarding the future development activities of the sports sector in the country.

Achchudan succeeds V. Premachandiran who functioned as the Acting DG of the Sports Ministry since the retirement of his predecessor Dr. Shemal Fernando in mid-2025.
