The Western Province accounted for 42.4 per cent of Sri Lanka’s nominal gross domestic product(GDP) in 2024, remaining the largest contributor to the economy, the Central Bank of Sri Lanka(CBSL) has announced.
The Central Bank attributed the strong performance to high activity in the services and industry sectors.
The North Western and Central provinces followed, contributing 11.5 per cent and 10.7 per cent, respectively.
The North Western Province led agricultural output with a 20 per cent share, while the Western Province dominated industry and services, contributing 47.6 per cent and 44.5 per cent.
