The Navy arrested two suspects and seized 4.45 kilograms of gold during a search operation off Arichchal, Kalpitiya on yesterday(1).

Acting on information, the Northwestern Naval Command intercepted a suspicious dinghy. 

Officers discovered the gold disguised as 13 fishing net sinkers.

The two suspects, residents of Wendesiwatta and Anawasala in Kalpitiya, were taken into custody along with the dinghy and the seized gold. 

They were handed over to the Customs Preventive Office in Katunayake for further legal action.
