The Bank of Ceylon (BOC) and National Savings Bank (NSB) have posted record-breaking profits for 2024, with both institutions formally presenting their annual reports to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake at the Presidential Secretariat today (22).

BOC announced a historic Rs. 106 billion in pre-tax profits, the highest ever by any Sri Lankan institution. Chairman Kavinda de Zoysa attributed the achievement to the bank’s strategic national development focus and SME rehabilitation efforts.

NSB, meanwhile, recorded a leap from Rs. 4.2 billion in 2023 to Rs. 26.4 billion this year. Chairman Harsha Cabral credited fiscal discipline, stakeholder cooperation, and internal reforms for the turnaround, emphasizing that NSB is now self-sustaining and no longer a Treasury burden.

Both leaders underscored that their boards serve without remuneration, framing their work as a model of public service. President Dissanayake hailed their success as proof that ethical leadership and strong governance can revitalize public institutions.
