Korea donates vital equipment to Suwa Arana

19 Mar 2024

The Government of the Republic of Korea last week donated a stock of vital equipment to Suwa Arana, the first Paediatric Palliative Care Centre in Sri Lanka.

The donation includes 106 solar panels, televisions, and air conditioning units that have been installed in Suwa Arana.

According to the Embassy of Korea, it is expected that these donated solar panels will contribute to a greener and more resilient energy infrastructure of the hospital, reducing carbon emissions and promoting environmental sustainability. Also, by reducing the operating costs of the building, it would be helpful for the hospital to use these savings on patient care.

“The handover ceremony is scheduled to take place with the participation of the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Sri Lanka Miyon Lee,  and other dignitaries including the KOICA Sri Lanka Office Country Director Myungjin Kim, Suwa Arana Chairperson  Dr. Lanka Jayasuriya-Dissanayake, and Patron of Indira Cancer Trust Karu Jayasuriya,” the Korean Embassy stated.

“The Government of the Republic of Korea has invested in the improvement of the healthcare system in Sri Lanka for a long time. Through their grants arm, Korea International Cooperation Agency, (KOICA) the Korean Government has built and equipped the Korea Sri Lanka Friendship Hospital which was handed over to the GOSL in March 2023. And recently in a donation similar to this, crucial medical equipment was donated to the Kalutara Teaching hospital,” the Embassy statement said.
