A total of 12 dengue-related deaths have been recorded so far this year, including two children under 12, the National Dengue Control Unit stated.

Community Physician Dr. Prashila Samaraweera noted that the child deaths were reported from Colombo and Ratnapura districts.

She also stated that 25,846 dengue cases have been reported across the country in 2026.

Authorities say rainfall and mosquito breeding conditions have contributed to the increase in cases.
